Such an amazing couple! I can’t tell you how excited I am to be working with these two lovebirds. Michelle was on her game from the moment we started. Brent admittedly took a little more direction in the beginning (as with most guys!) but check out his work in this series of images. You couldn’t tell one bit that he was camera shy. I love how he let himself just get into some of these moments and practically forget that I was there snapping away. I am so so lucky to be doing what I’m doing. Can not wait to see these two get married later this year!

Alina06.10.13
I recently had the opportunity to photograph the beautiful and talented writer Alina Kulesh who is also the editor of the arts & style journal, frank. When Alina sent me the initial set of inspiration shots, I was sold – they were exactly the type of portraits that inspire me to pick up my camera and start shooting. She knew exactly what she wanted and allowed herself to be vulnerable with me, which is often the starting point for a great portrait session. It definitely didn’t hurt that girl has a deep appreciation for fashion and the arts, including photography.
Beyond creating images that were just flattering portraits of Alina (the easy part!), we wanted the images to give the viewer something more. We wanted to capture the essence of who Alina is – a writer, an observer, a girl who often gets lost in her own sea of thoughts and ideas. I wanted to get a sense of her being almost distant from the world yet retain a sense of intrigue. There’s always been something that’s captivated me about writers and I still don’t know exactly what it is but I often picture them in that dark, moody and pensive state. I personally love this type of imagery. Hopefully you see some of these ideas reflected below. I’m looking forward to see which of these images she’ll connect with the most.
What do you think? Which shot(s) do you think would make a good profile photo for an editor of an arts & style journal?

It’s been a while since I’ve posted anything new so I thought I would post one from a set that I’m currently working on. This is from one of those shoots. The ones where you don’t want to stop shooting because the light is more than perfect, you have an amazing connection with the person you’re photographing and you’re loving what you’re doing. This was from one of those shoots. Can’t wait to share the rest of this portrait session.

the chan family04.23.13
This precious little family will always be near and dear to my heart. I got to spend a lovely few days with them in January and I recently got around to processing some of the photos we took this past week.
Although Jen and I have always remained close friends despite living in different cities, it’s rare to get the opportunity to just do nothing together for a few days especially as you grow up and begin new lives in different cities. So I can’t express how much I cherished the few days where I got to sleep in every morning, eat a proper breakfast (complete with bacon and eggs!), play with Edie, prepare meals together with Kel and just ‘be’ a part of these guys lives.
I remember at the end of each day we would scroll through all the photos we took (Jen is as much of a photoholic as I am!) and as I watched her scroll through and even tear up at times, I remember feeling a surge of warmth inside. It’s in these moments that I know why I want to continue what I’m doing.
If you’re feeling lazy to scroll through the images or you just want to see the sweet little slideshow I put together, click here. (Sorry to any Google Chrome users! It seems to be the only browser that doesn’t seem to support the slideshow at this time.)

Behind the Scenes.04.12.13
There’s something about capturing those unrehearsed moments that I just love.
Last week I gave myself a break from the editing desk to go with Brandon to one of his quartet concerts. It was a luxury that I could never afford with my previous 9-5 in the office schedule. This is part of what I love about my new life, getting to spend so much more time with my talented and dedicated hubby whether it’s working away in my studio while he’s rehearsing or teaching in his or sitting in on rehearsals! It’s such a treat getting to see the creation process before an actual performance.
Here’s a glimpse of the rehearsal before this concert at the Art Gallery of Mississauga. Don’t they look like an art installation?

IRENE + KEVIN02.17.13
Irene and Kevin got married last August at the Windsor Arms Hotel. Simple, classic and elegant are how I would describe the day they had planned for friends and family to celebrate their marriage. Irene and Kevin have been close friends of mine for some time and I feel so incredibly grateful and honoured not only for their friendship and support but also that that they trusted me with photographing their wedding day. To help me capture the day, I asked talented photographer and friend Thomas Lee to help out. To see more details from the day, their wedding was also featured on WedLuxe here.
Venue: Windsor Arms Hotel
Flowers: Petite Studio
Make-up Artist: Elisa Doyon-Vachon

New Beginnings.01.22.13
As the reality of a new year sinks in, so does the fact that I’ve officially made the switch to full-time photography, leaving behind a career as a radiation physicist. It’s an odd feeling after 6 years to think that I’ll now be focusing most of my time getting to know people, hear their stories and perhaps even have the privilege of one day documenting a part of their lives. It’s such a huge change of pace for me but I’m loving every moment of this new journey. Every day certainly brings with it challenges but this time I have a huge sense of belonging where I feel I’m finally where I want to be and doing exactly what I want to be doing. I feel so incredibly lucky that so many amazing people have stepped into my life and played a part in me being able to do just this. So excited for all the beautiful people and places I have yet to meet this year!
Took this photo just steps away from my old workplace, just around the time I made the decision to jump ship.

feet first & blogshop. la.12.07.12
Way back in April, I had the amazing opportunity to attend the feet first + blogshop workshop hosted by a group of the most talented creatives you could ever dream of putting together to give a 3 day workshop. Getting to spend time with max, margaux, jesse, whitney, bri and angela and listening to them share their stories, their inspiration and of course many practical tips on running a business and even on life in general was pretty crazy. And as if that weren’t enough, I became friends with some of the loveliest photographers from all around the world.
This is pretty long-overdue blog post (as will be some of my upcoming posts). There’s just so much to catch up with here. I can’t wait to share everything that I’ve been up to including a pretty big life change that I’ll blog about real soon.
